Lac Des Arc couple mourn loss of their dream home, destroyed in flood

CALGARY – A husband and wife in the hamlet of Lac Des Arcs say they are heartbroken to have lost their dream home.

Bob and Nancy McGinn have been watching the banks of the Bow River grow closer to their home since last Thursday.

There used to be 11 metres of soil between them and the river, but now the bank is underneath their home.

It’s a tough time for the McGinn’s, who put their savings into the home and were just about ready to move in.

The couple gave a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to neighbours who have taken them in and helped move belongings away from the home as the soil began giving way.

About three homes in the small hamlet near Exshaw will likely be destroyed by the flooding.
