Crime-fighting firefighters foil robbery in northwest

CALGARY- As if they aren’t busy enough these days, some Calgary firefighters found time to be crime fighters, too.

Just before 2 p.m. on Friday, a group of firefighters were in the area of Centre St. and 16 Ave. N.W. when they saw an altercation outside of a store.

They called police, then managed to interrupt what appears to have been a robbery in progress.

Firefighters subdued one of two suspects, who was armed with a knife and crowbar.

Police arrived at the scene, and arrested the suspect.
