College bus exchange to be changed

KELOWNA ~ There are new plans in the works for the transit exchange at Okanagan College.

The City of Kelowna has unveiled their final proposed project for the bus loop located at the College and KLO Road.  Wednesday night’s open housed wrapped up a series of public information sessions which worked to identify specific concerns area residents had regarding the improvement process.

The City is hoping to change the configuration of the current transit exchange which requires busses to sit on KLO and taking up a lane

Regional Projects Manager Andrew Albiston says the current bus loop is no longer serving the needs for the area, “Now we have identified what our needs are for the future, and will be relocating that facility to not necessarily on the street but in the form of a bus pull-out on the roadway.”

Many of the concerns expressed by area residents were regarding the safety of pedestrians crossing KLO, “We had some concerns in our complex and looking at the plans, now it seems he has listened to our concerns and all of the owners of Oxford 1 & 2 will be happy with what he has proposed.” says one area resident Ron Hodges.

Construction of the new exchange is expected to start early fall with most of the work to be completed by the end of the year.
