Coquitlam’s mayor raising concerns about aging Bailey Bridge

Coquitlam’s mayor is raising concerns about the aging bailey bridge between Coquitlam and New Westminster.

Richard Stewart says he’s worried someone with an emergency will not be able to reach Royal Columbian Hospital in time because of the traffic backup.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

He says a bottle neck has been created on Brunette Avenue because trucks can no longer take the one-lane Bailey Bridge.

Stewart is recommending a four lane overpass to replace the span, or a two-lane Bailey Bridge.

But New Westminster would rather see traffic flow improved in the area.

The bridge was shutdown in February because of structural issues.
