TORONTO – A new transit report outlines when new streetcars will be deployed throughout the city.

The report, expected to be reviewed by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) board on June 24, also estimates how long commuters along those routes will have to wait between streetcars.

The 204 new streetcars will begin to be deployed in 2014 along the Spadina Avenue and Bathurst Street routes.

They will also be deployed along Harbourfront that same year due to the shared infrastructure of the two routes.

In 2014/2015, streetcars will be deployed along Dundas Street routes.

In 2015/2016, new streetcars will begin rolling down Queen Street and Lakeshore Boulevard routes.

The streetcars will be deployed along King Street in 2016/2017, St. Clair Avenue in 2017/2018, downtown in 2018, Kingston Road in 2018 and Carlton Street in 2018/2019.

However the deployment of the longer, more accessible streetcars will also cause wait times – mainly during peak hours – to increase.

Wait times are expected to increase along several routes between 30 seconds and a minute and a half.

The largest increase in wait times, according to the TTC report, are along the 505 Dundas Street route which will increase by a minute and a half and the 512 St. Clair Avenue route which will increase by a minute and 20 seconds.

According to the report, wait times during off-peak hours will remain largely unaffected but could increase along some routes.
