The BC Children’s Hospital celebrated 25 years of cochlear implantation in children who have severe hearing loss.
More than 300 BC children have received cochlear implants at the hospital since the program’s inception.

The implant has two parts: an internal device surgically implanted, and an processor worn behind the ear that picks up sound.
Over the years, they’ve decreased from the size of an Sony Walkman to its current size, in the process becoming better at reducing background noise and limiting water damage.
