Elizabeth’s Wildlife Center in Abbotsford in danger of closing

Elizabeth’s Wildlife Center in Abbotsford is in danger of closing its doors due to lack of funds.

Elizabeth Melnick has been running the rescue centre for 27 years, but lost key federal funding this year.

Every summer Melnick hires two full-time interns to help her care for all the animals, but with no funding this year, she can’t afford to pay for the help herself.

Thousands of animals go through the centre every year, and Melnick helps care for everything from birds, squirrels, possums, ducks, you name it. Many of these animals are brought in when they are small, after their mother has been killed or they’ve been abandoned.
