The Weyburn RCMP detachment is investigating after a “sizable fire” destroyed a field of flax bales in the city’s southwest. It took nearly three hours for the Weyburn Fire Department to control the blaze.
The field the blaze broke out in was behind the city’s Ethanol plant, making containing the fire all the more important. The flax bales were still smouldering this morning.
Police say they were called to the scene around 9:30 last night, and were controlling traffic. Vehicles had to be stopped on some secondary roads because of all the smoke.
