Affordable housing project in Regina open for those with intellectual disabilities

A new group home officially opened for those with intellectual disabilities in Regina on Thursday.

The Government of Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Social Services made $268,000 available towards the project and Saskatchewan Housing Corporation donated $70,000. Funding also came from the City of Regina and the Kinsmen Foundation.

Suites will be available for people with low and moderate incomes and intellectual disabilities. They will be able to live independently but will still have access to occasional support.

Four people will be able to live in the group home in Westhill run by Chip and Dale Housing.

Donna Harpauer, the Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, says this project is very positive for those with intellectual disabilities.

“This project will make a difference in the lives of the people who will now have a safe, affordable, quality place to live that meets their needs,” Harpauer said.
