A “noxious substance” led to the evacuation of the Hub Mall and the Rutherford Library at the University of Alberta on Tuesday.
Staff received the email at 10:40 on Tuesday morning via email about a possibly dangerous situation at Hub Mall.
“There is a chemical exposure in the HUB Mall and Rutherford Library area,” the e-mail said. “If you are in or near these locations vacate the area immediately.”
Those still in the building were urged to stay in the rooms they were currently occupying in case the chemicals were present in the hallways.
According to the U of A website the evacuation order was lifted at 12:17pm, but crews continued to use fans to ventilate the building using fans.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.
