A 51-year-old man was shot in the leg at a St. Michel auto-body shop about 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon during an altercation with four men who then fled the scene.
The man remained in stable condition in a Montreal hospital Monday night and was not in danger for his life, Montreal police Constable Anie Lemieux said.
The gunshot victim met with police investigators for preliminary questioning early Monday evening, Lemieux added.
“I didn’t get any indication that he wasn’t co-operating," Lemieux said.
The man is believed to be the owner of Juste Carrosserie.com Inc. at 8626 10th Ave., corner Robert Blvd.
The four suspects apparently fled in a vehicle.
According to Lemieux, witnesses said all four are white, were wearing dark clothing and appeared to be “in their late 20s or possibly in their early 30s.”
Asked whether the incident could be related to the Mob or some other sort of organized-crime activity such as a protection-money racket, Lemieux responded that “it is too early to say.”
The auto-body repair and paint shop is known to police, she added.
“On occasion, in the past, police have been called to the same premises to deal with disturbances.”
