One person dead after van fire in Vancouver

One person is dead after a van fire near Victoria Drive and East 12th Avenue in Vancouver Saturday morning.

The flames broke out in an alley south-east of Victoria Drive just before 6 a.m.

Police say they have not been able to conclusively determine the cause and origin of the fire.

Several witnesses Global News spoke with this morning refused to go on camera, but say they heard what sounded like an explosion.

When firefighters showed up they put out the blaze, and upon inspection found a man’s body inside the charred van.

The identity of the victim is unconfirmed, but friends and family were at the scene today. It’s unknown if the victim lived in the home, where the burned out van was found.

An autopsy will be conducted later this week.

It’s unknown if the fire is suspicious at this point. The investigation is ongoing.
