Severe thunderstorm warnings lifted across Alberta on Wednesday night

A number of areas in southern and central Alberta were issued a severe thunderstorm warning on Wednesday afternoon.

“Meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to toonie-sized hail and heavy rain,” Environment Canada said on its website shortly after 2:30 p.m.

A number of areas in southern Alberta were also under a severe thunderstorm watch shortly before 3 p.m.

At about 3:40 p.m., the weather agency issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of east-central Alberta.

By 5:30 p.m., all severe thunderstorm warnings across the province had been lifted.

At 5:52 p.m., a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for parts of Cypress County. A severe thunderstorm warning was also later issued for Medicine Hat.

The warning issued for Medicine Hat was lifted at 8:36 p.m.

By 9 p.m., the were no longer any severe thunderstorm warnings in place in Alberta.
