Do Ontario residents really want a change at Queen’s Park?

TORONTO – Despite a recent poll showing the majority of Ontario residents think it’s time for a change at Queen’s Park, Premier Kathleen Wynne says she can’t base her decisions on any one poll.

“I really can’t be bound or constrained by what one poll says,” Wynne said. “Who knows whether that poll reflects the reality right across the province? I just don’t think we can assess that.”

A recent Ipsos-Reid poll conducted for Global News, the National Post and Newstalk 1010 suggested 66 per cent of Ontarians believe it is “time for another political party to take over.”

The Tories also led both the NDP and the Liberal party garnering 37 per cent of support.

The Liberals in fact trailed the NDP by one percentage point in the poll and now Kathleen Wynne is attempting to woo Andrea Horwath and her New Democrats in order to keep her government afloat.

The Ontario budget, released Thursday, reflected the long list of requests by the NDP.

There’s no doubt Wynne’s government is on some shaky ground with the electorate, the Premier insists she’s prepared to meet those challenges “head on.”

“If there’s an issue that is a huge challenge to us, I try to look at it, assess it and give our response,” Wynne said.

Horwath, who launched a public campaign aimed at gathering opinions of Ontarians on the budget, said Friday her party is “prepared” for an election.
