Driver faces $299 fine when ‘late for class’ excuse doesn’t fly with RCMP

A driver near Headingley is facing a big fine after she blew past an RCMP officer who was pulled over at the side of the road.

The officer was about to get out of the police car – with beacons flashing – when the driver drove past at highway speed.

Manitoba RCMP said the woman gave the excuse of being late for class, but received a $299 ticket regardless.

The Slow Down Move Over traffic act requires drivers to do just that — slow down and move over — when passing police cars, emergency vehicles and tow trucks in service on the side of the road.

Police continue to remind drivers that they are required to slow down when they see police at the side of the road with lights flashing, or be issued a ticket.
