Over 2,900 collisions reported in Guelph in 2018: police

New statistics show there were 2,919 collisions reported to Guelph police in 2018, which is slightly up from the previous year.

Police received 96 more crash reports last year than they did in 2017, according to a news release from police on Thursday.

According to their numbers, November saw the most collisions with 356 and Thursday was the worst day of the week with 507 crashes happening on that day last year.

Police also saw the most crashes during the rush hour between 3-5 p.m.

The top five intersections for crashes in 2018 was also released with Silvercreek Parkway and Speedvale Avenue at the top.

Wellington Street and Edinburgh Road, and Stone and Edinburgh roads, were tied in second place.

Police said 42 crashes involved drugs or alcohol, 46 involved pedestrians and 25 involved cyclists.

The vast majority of crashes happened when the road conditions were clear and dry, according to police.
