Peterborough Police welcome 2 new members to K-9 Unit

The Peterborough Police Service has bolstered its ranks, with the addition of two new four-legged members.

A special ceremony was held on Monday to welcome two new members of the K9 unit — Isaac and Chase.

“It adds a really important tool to our ability to get the job done in the community,” said Peterborough Police Chief Scott Gilbert.

“They’re invaluable for searches for missing people, for wanted parties, drug detection, protecting the officers themselves on the road — they’re a great partner for the officer,” he added.

On Monday, it was hard for both dogs to contain their excitement when they were officially presented with their badges.

Chief Scott Gilbert also expressed his gratitude to the Rotary Club, which donated the money to get the dogs.

“Isaac started his training in September of 2018. We went to Niagara Falls and completed the Niagara Regional basic K-9 training. Close to Christmas time, he became operational and he trains everyday,” said Const. Bob Cowle from the Peterborough Police Service.
