TORONTO — Movie star Matthew McConaughey has partnered with a Canadian company to create a sportswear collection.

Toronto-based Grand National Apparel will distribute JKL. A portion of sales will support the actor’s Just Keep Livin’ Foundation, which funds fitness and wellness programs at inner-city schools.

“I’m starting this brand because it accents a positive,” McConaughey said in a release. “It spreads a good word, creates incentive, puts a smile on my face and it’s fun.”

The goal, he added, was to create a men’s clothing line that is fashionable and functional.

“I like working on the details, the design, the marketing,” said McConaughey, “and I think the JKL philosophy is what makes it unique. I am behind this brand, not in front of it: I’m the author, not the face or the definition, and that allows the consumer to personalize his own JKL story with each item he purchases.”

The debut collection is available at U.S. retail chain Dillard’s. Canadians can shop the collection from the Dillard’s website, where JKL jeans cost $113 and T-shirts range from $44 to $63.

Grand National Apparel brands include Perry Ellis, Pacific Trail and Savane. The company was founded in 1965 as a manufacturer of private-label dress pants.
