A trio of Kirkland residents are spending the week going door to door visiting senior citizens.
They are not checking on the health of the elderly, but rather offering a helping hand to dig out of the 40 centimeters of snow that fell on Montreal.
“It’s very much appreciated,” Wes Gill, a Kirkland resident, told Global News. “We’re not crippled or anything like that. We’re just surviving this thing but any help like this is nice.”

The volunteers’ primary job is to salt walkways and driveways but there is plenty of shoveling to do just to expose the ice below.
“It makes me feel good as well to see other people getting help but I think the seniors really do enjoy the visit,” Karen Cliffe, a volunteer who spearheaded the effort told Global News.
Cliffe is doing the work with the help of her husband and son. She expects the job will keep her busy in the coming day days knowing plenty of senior citizens need the extra hand.
“I’m ready for that,” she said.
“It’s exercise. It’s actually beautiful out.”
Cliffe and her team decided to do this on their own as good Samaritans.
In Dorval, the city has a team of volunteers that has been helping to clear the ice and snow of driveways and walkways for years.
“They call and then we will send help that we can,” Dorval Mayor Edgar Rouleau told Global News.
