City of Regina’s citizen services department is prepared to issue a request for proposals (RFP) for the Winnipeg Street Overpass Realignment – pending council’s approval.
The RFP document will allow the city to elicit formal bids from potential companies for engineering services on the project.
It will also specify what the city is looking for in the contract.
Municipal, provincial and federal governments committed $28.8 million towards improvements of the Winnipeg Street overpass at Ring Road on Dec. 20, 2018.
The existing overpass will be replaced with a new structure to the west, two connecting intersections along 9th Avenue North will be added, and the diamond interchanges that connect to the Ring Road will be realigned.
Regain Mayor Michael Fougere previously said “the realignment and rebuilding of the Winnipeg Street overpass is a top priority for the city,” and stated it is a “common-sense change that creates a safer, more efficient transportation system overall.”
The design for the new overpass will be done this year, with construction expected to start in 2020.
