A Kingston bus driver is being commended by police for apprehending a man who was causing a disturbance on public transportation.
Around 7 p.m. on Monday, police say a 29-year-old man was disturbing people in the back of a Kingston Transit bus travelling down Princess Street.
Police say he was “being loud and menacing towards other passengers while pretending to throw punches at an older man.”
Kingston police say the bus driver was afraid for the safety of his passengers, so he pulled over on Midland Avenue and warned the man he would have to get off the bus.
According to a police news release, the man then stormed to the front of the bus and began swearing at the driver.
While the driver tried to convince him to get off the bus, police say the man became violent and hit the driver in the back of the head.
Nevertheless, police say the driver “took control” and was able to restrain the man until police arrived.
The man was charged with assault and with causing a disturbance by being intoxicated.
