Police say the charges against a man in connection with an incident in Oro-Medonte have been upgraded to first-degree murder.
According to Orillia OPP, on Jan. 30, just after 11:30 a.m., a man was located inside a residence on Line 10 North with life-threatening injuries.
Police say he was transported to a hospital in Toronto where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officers have identified the deceased as 34-year-old Lee William Lackey.
According to police, 69-year-old Peter Vanderveen from Oro-Medonte was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Police say the charges against Vanderveen have now been upgraded to first-degree murder.
Officers say he has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Orillia on Feb. 19.
