Police say a Toronto man accused of importing heroin has been sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison.

Halton region police say the Canadian Border Services Agency intercepted three packages from India and Malaysia in the fall of 2016 and found one was headed for a package delivery company in Georgetown, Ont., while the other two were bound for a mailbox store in Port Perry, Ont.

Police say the packages contained a total of 990 grams of concealed heroin.

They say that on Nov. 7, 2016, 49-year-old Innocent Annih was arrested when he tried to pick up one of the packages.

Police say their investigation into each of the three heroin shipments found further evidence against the man, who was convicted in September of conspiracy to import heroin and two counts of attempted possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking.

They say a Superior Court judge sentenced him on Friday to ten and a half years behind bars.
