Organization gives free wedding to couple struggling with sick son

TORONTO – A Toronto organization that provides free weddings to struggling couples is giving two people west of Toronto whose son is struggling with cancer some much needed help Friday.

Halton residents Jhonavel and Rolan Cabrera are getting married Friday with the help of Wedding Saviours.

“When our son got diagnosed with brain cancer, that also held us back,” said bride-to-be Jhonavel Cabrera. “He’s gone through chemotherapy, radiation, brain surgery and he’s gone through a lot. That made us realize that we need to get this wedding on the road.”

The vendors are listed on the website and in return they offer their services to struggling couples, like the Cabreras, who put their wedding on hold due to their son’s health problems.

“Wedding Saviours is an online directory with a twist,” said Wedding Saviours founder Brenda Holdsworth. “It’s a membership fee for the vendors that want to establish themselves on our website but they are required to pay it forward.”

The Cabreras have received help with everything they need on their wedding day, from the cake, to the dress and the jewellery.

“In this industry sometimes is so good to give back,” said Jane Dayus-Hinch who is helping with the wedding. “And when I heard what Brenda and the Wedding Saviours team, what they were doing, why wouldn’t I want to be a part of that?”

The couple is looking forward to reading their vows in front of their family, friends and the Wedding Saviours team.

“We feel very fortunate. We wouldn’t have been able to afford a wedding like this,” said Cabrera. “To have Wedding Saviours there is a big help and they have been our angel throughout all of this.”
