About 2,000 people showed up at Kelowna City Park on Sunday morning for the 17th annual Run for the Cure.

Organizers say the event was bigger and better than last year, adding it may be the biggest walk so far for breast cancer in the city’s history.

Families, young children, group of friends and even dogs came out to show their support for women and men who are currently battling breast cancer and to honour those who have lost their fight with the disease.

This year, 2,800 new cases will be diagnosed in B.C. and 640 people will succumb to the disease.

Organizers say while the fundraising total has yet to be finalized, they are expecting this year’s total to exceed last year’s total.

Last year, 1,850 people participated in the run, which raised $311,000.
