Some road closures were still effect in Transcona Monday evening after a fire in an industrial area earlier in the day.

The blaze began around 10 a.m. at Pounder Emulsions at 28 hundred Day Street but Winnipeg fire crews had the fire out by the afternoon.

Crews were checking for any hotspots Monday evening on Day Street between Gunn and Springfield roads.

The fire forced the evacuation of some nearby businesses as well as one school in the area.

The evacuation order was lifted earlier in the evening.

There were no injuries and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The fire is an echo of a similar fire six years ago.

The Oct. 1, 2012, fire at Speedway International caused an explosion that sent a massive fireball into the air, forcing the evacuation of the surrounding area, including about 100 homes. It cost fire crews just over $31,000 to fight.
