Mayday situation for Saskatoon firefighters inside house south of city

Members of the Saskatoon Fire Department face rapidly changing conditions as they battled a burning house in Riverside Estates.

Smoke was reported coming from inside the vacant home just south of the city at roughly 11:50 a.m. CT on Tuesday.

The fire department said smoke was evident through second-storey windows and crews entered the building.

Firefighters discovered flames from below were beginning to burn through the main floor and they evacuated the house.

Saskatoon Firefighters IAFF union local 80 tweeted crews became tangled in furniture and a mayday was called.

All members were able to get out safely on their own.

The cause of the fire or a damage estimate are unknown.
