TORONTO – A 16-year-old has died after being trapped underwater for 45 minutes following a devastating auto accident early Friday evening. According to police, the SUV carrying five teenage occupants was travelling eastbound on Lake Shore Blvd at Don Roadway when it lost control and crashed through a guard rail.
Toronto police and fire crews jumped into the river as the car rapidly submerged as witnesses watched.
Though four of the occupants managed to escape relatively soon after impact, but one 16-year-old boy was trapped for at least 45 minutes in the frigid water.
He was not removed from the vehicle until it had been winched to the side of the river by a fire truck.
