A major storm tore through the Kindersley area on Tuesday evening, leaving a large amount of damage in its path
Twenty minutes after the storm, area farmer Duane Kozicki surveyed the damage in his farm yard south of town. He discovered many of his grain bins were left mangled.
“We’ve found three hopper bins located on the gravel back there were lifted off. Six flat bottom bins on the cement pads were all ripped off,” explained Kozicki.
A semi-trailer was also flipped on its side.
“We could see the cloud forming over this area of course. Heavy rain hit, winds hit, couldn’t see much,” said Kozicki.
On Tuesday, Environment Canada reported winds gusts up to 89 kilometres an hour and around 32 mm of rain in Kindersley.
The storm also blasted through Golf View Mobile Acres, a local Kindersley RV park, knocking over camper trailers.
“We had a mobile home or RV that was on top of another with entrapment. We responded to the incident to find that there were four mobile homes or RVs that had flipped over with two occupants inside one of the RVs,” said Ron Hope, Kindersley’s fire chief.
Hope said there wasn’t any reported injuries from the storm.
“The way that they are tipped, the power boxes for the RVs are stabbed through the side of the units. There was concern over whether we were going to have electrical issues. It was obviously raining, it’s flooding everywhere,” said Kelly Alexander, the park manager of Golf View Mobile Acres.
Red Cross is working with Kindersley and sent clean up kits for homes affected by flooding and high winds.
“As far as the community goes, there going to be busy. There’s lot of clean up to be done,” said Hope.
