Mike’s Monday Outlook: staying hot, getting humid again

This weekend was beyond hot in Manitoba! Saturday actually broke a record for Dew point temperature. That may not mean a lot but it’s a marker for humidity.

While there was a chance for some huge storms in southern Manitoba on Saturday due to the heat and humidity, the storms were “capped” so when the front moved through the region, storms were unable to form.

We did however, deal with less humidity Sunday and more of the same to start the work week.

Temperatures this week are expected to stay hot, right around 30 degrees Celsius.

The humidex values though will start to climb once again as a low pressure system builds and moves towards central Manitoba Tuesday into Wednesday. It will draw in warm, moist air that will increase the humidity in the region.

This system could bring some thunderstorm activity to southern Manitoba Tuesday morning in Westman. It will likely be non-severe.

Winnipeg has a slight chance of getting a couple drops but the increase in humidity will be more noticeable than the rain. As the system gets to central Manitoba, it’s a bit more likely that Winnipeg will see some shower activity along a developing front. Depending on timing, it could cause some thunderstorm activity but this is still the day humidex values will likely peak. It looks like Winnipeg will be feeling like it’s close to 40 degrees in the afternoon.
Behind the front, clearer skies and drier conditions are expected to wrap up the work week.
