The Ticats scored an impressive 38-21 win over the Edmonton Eskimos in Week 2, after opening the season with a mistake-filled 28-14 loss at Calgary. Now the Ticats return to their home turf, which hasn’t been so sweet. Hamilton carries a 5-13 record at Tim Hortons Field since 2015.

Winnipeg opened the season with a 33-30 marathon home loss to the Eskimos that featured a pair of lightning delays. The Blue Bombers followed up with a dominating 56-10 road win over the Montreal Alouettes in Week 2. Winnipeg rookie quarterback Chris Streveler led both teams in passing (22-28 for 246 yards and three touchdowns) and rushing (10 carries for 98 yards and one touchdown).

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Streveler, a former Minnesota Golden Gopher, became the first quarterback since Anthony Calvillo in 1994 with Las Vegas to start a regular season-opener straight out of college. The rookie hurler leads the CFL in passing touchdowns (6) and ranks fourth in overall passing yards, behind Edmonton’s Mike Reilly (694), Hamilton’s Jeremiah Masoli (676), and Calgary’s Bo Levi Mitchell (621).

Since taking over the starter role in Hamilton last season, Masoli has been one of the more productive QBs in the CFL. He’s gone seven-straight games with 300-plus passing yards. Masoli completed 65.5 per cent of his passes for 332 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s win over Edmonton.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats depth chart for the Friday, June 29 game versus the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Tim Hortons Field. Hamilton Tiger-Cats

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced on Thursday they released Canadian offensive lineman Braden Schram. A somewhat surprising move seeing as how Schram is just one year removed from being drafted in the second round by Hamilton. The Cats, however, have the luxury of Canadian depth on the O-line. Guard Brandon Revenberg and centre Mike Filer lead a unit that includes 2018 first-rounder Darius Ciraco. Ciraco, a Burlington native, has already passed Schram on the depth chart.

3 things to watch:

  1. Tiger-Cats linebacker Simoni Lawrence is chasing several milestones: three games played away from 100 career games played, 25 tackles away from 400 career defensive tackles, seven tackles away from 400 career total tackles, one tackle away from fourth in Tiger-Cats’ history in total tackles (currently 367), one tackle away from third in Tiger-Cats’ history in defensive tackles and 64 away from second (currently 360).
  2. Jeremiah Masoli is two consecutive 300-yard passing games away from tying the CFL record for most consecutive 300-yard passing games (currently seven; record is nine, set by Montreal’s Sam Etcheverry in 1956).
  3. Friday’s tilt won’t just be a home game for the Tiger-Cats. Winnipeg receiver Dan Petermann is expecting 50 friends and family in the stands at Tim Hortons Field. The 22-year-old Stoney Creek native and McMaster University alum is the youngest on the Bombers roster. Petermann, who made his first career CFL catch in a Week 2 win over Montreal, owns the Marauders’ all-time record after hauling 181 catches over four years at Mac. Petermann played high-school football at Cardinal Newman Catholic Secondary School.
