Halton police are looking for the driver of a newer-model silver Dodge Caravan that blew through a R.I.D.E spot check in Acton earlier Tuesday morning, almost striking an officer.

Police say the incident occurred at roughly 1:26 a.m. Tuesday morning at Young and Peel streets.

A uniformed Halton Regional Police officer scrambled to get out of the way and just narrowly missed being struck by the van.

The officer’s flashlight made contact with the driver’s side of the van. Fortunately, the officer was not injured.

The suspect vehicle was last seen passing a transport tanker truck and two vehicles southbound on Regional Road 25 at speeds estimated to be in excess of 140 km/h.

Police say the vehicle should have some damage to the driver’s side resulting from the contact with the officer’s flashlight.
