The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for Canadian Logan Whitfield off the coast of Hawaii, near Champagne Ponds, Big Island.

However, when he didn’t return as he previously said he would, she notified the Coast Guard. She added during her report that her son was a strong swimmer.

An urgent marine information broadcast notice was issued to boaters in the area encouraging them to keep a sharp lookout. At around 10:05 p.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point was dispatched to search the area.

A statement from Hawaii police called Whitfield a “visitor,” suggesting he was just temporarily staying in the area.
