CALGARY- Three women managed to escape an early  morning fire at a home in the northeast on Sunday, thanks to smoke  detectors.

Police say it was just one of many fires in our  city over the weekend.

The first broke out around 4 a.m. Sunday morning  in the 800 block of Matador Crescent N.E. Fire fighters  arrived to find smoke billowing from the basement of the home.

The three female occupants; aged 51, 49 and  24-years-old, were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors installed on both  levels of the home.

Fortunately, there were no injuries.

A second fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. this  morning in the 1300 block of 19th Avenue N.W.

Crews say a pot was left unattended on the stove,  leading to a great deal of smoke.

Two residents were home at the time, but both  managed to get out safely.

No injuries have been reported.

And finally, crews also attended to a fire at an  apartment building in the 600 block of 1st Avenue  N.E.

Fire fighters say an enclosed rubbish container  caught fire and the resulting smoke entered the building through open windows,  triggering the alarm system.

Residents were evacuated, but have since been allowed  back in to the building.
