Residents of Peterborough County will see their taxes increase in 2018.
On Wednesday, county council approved the 2018 budget with a tax rate increase, net assessment growth of 3.85%. It’s lower than the draft budget which proposed a 3.96% increase.
Trena DeBruijn, County director of finance/treasurer, says for an average home in the County assessed at $249,500, will be assessed an additional $27.32 more in county taxes.
Peterborough County council includes representatives from eight townships: Selwyn, Douro-Dummer, Havelock-Belmont Methuen, Asphodel-Norwood, North Kawartha, Trent Lakes, Cavan Monaghan and Otonabee-South Monaghan.
County Warden Joe Taylor says council directed staff to bring forward a “responsible budget that was all encompassing.”
Two per cent of the tax levy is dedicated to public works infrastructure.
“County council have approved a fiscally responsible budget that reflects the pressures we have financially but one that we feel appropriately addresses the priorities of the County and focuses on core infrastructure priorities in 2018,” he said.
