A Calgary bakery is using social media in the hopes of finding the person responsible for breaking into its Mission storefront and stealing money.
La Boulangerie posted a video on Facebook on Wednesday of what Calgary police are now investigating as a break and enter.
In the video, a hooded man is seen running behind the counter, then dragging the cash register onto the floor before backing out of the frame.
La Boulangerie owner Shosh Cohen said the robbery was “the fastest thing” she’s ever seen, happening within seconds.
“Twenty seconds. In and out. Somebody walked in through the back door, got in, took the till and went out. 20 seconds,” she said.
Calgary police said the break and enter was reported at about 5 a.m. on Monday. It’s believed the suspect smashed the glass door of the business sometime between 2 a.m. and 4:40 a.m. and then targeted the cash register.
Police said an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.

Three security cameras captured it all on tape but Cohen said there wasn’t much evidence left in the way of fingerprints or footprints at the scene.

Cohen said there was a car waiting and she believes the thief had help.
“It was all very professional… He didn’t act by himself.”
Cohen said the social media post was made in hopes that someone may be able to identify him. She also wants business owners to be aware of crimes in their neighbourhood, reminding everyone to stay on high alert.
“I wanted people to… be aware. That’s what happened. Maybe if there were more things happening on 4 Street, other people would post… and maybe the police would increase their presence here, especially at night.”
Officers interviewed neighbours and searched for other surveillance footage. Forensic crime investigators were also on hand, which police said is common when evidence such as fingerprints or footprints may be found.
The incident is still under investigation, police said, and anyone who has information on the crime or could identify the suspect is asked to contact police.
