A child suffered life-threatening injuries and another was hurt in a snowmobile crash in Haliburton County on Monday afternoon.

OPP say the two children were injured when around 3:30 p.m., the snowmobile suddenly accelerated and struck a dock on a private property on Lake Kawagama, in the Dorest area about 70 kilometres north of Minden.

The children — reportedly ages 4 and 2 — were ejected from the snowmobile.

One child was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with life-threatening injuries; the other suffered minor injuries.

The OPP’s technical collision investigators were called to the scene. The cause of the crash has yet to be determined.
