A suspicious package was found early Friday morning outside a commercial building on Peel Street between De Maisonneuve and Sainte-Catherine streets.
Police closed off the area around 4 a.m., after the package was found.
“We closed off the area, as is procedure for suspicious packages,” Montreal police spokesperson Raphael Bergeron said.
“The SWAT team is on-site, we will update once we have the area secured.”
In addition to the street being sectioned off, Montreal police confirmed the Cours Mont-Royal entrance to the Peel Metro station was also closed during the operation.
A bomb disposal robot was deployed around 7:40 a.m. and the robot’s detonation device was triggered shortly after.
Peel Street was reopened to traffic just before 9:00 a.m.
