U.K. authorities reopen London’s Oxford Circus Station following reports of shots fired

British authorities have reopened two subway stations on London’s Oxford Street after investigating report of shots being fired at Circus Station in the city’s main shopping district, during rush hour on Friday.

Just before 5 p.m. local time, British Transit Police said units were responding to an “incident” at the station.

“Police have responded as if the incident is terrorist related. Armed and unarmed officers are on scene and dealing along with colleagues from British Transit Police,” the Metropolitan Police force tweeted.

Police urged those in the area to take shelter in nearby buildings.

London Fire Brigade said three engines and 15 firefighters responded to the station around 4:45 p.m. local time.

Just before 6 p.m., police said officers had yet to find “any trace of suspects, evidence of shots fired or casualties.

“Armed officers were quickly on scene, no evidence of gunfire found. The area was searched swiftly and we are working to lift cordons and reopen stations,” British Transit Police said.
