Five drivers in Moncton, N.B., felt the full effect of the province’s Move Over law after they were all ticketed within 45 minutes of one another earlier this month.
RCMP officers with the Codiac Regional Department handed out the tickets as part of a blitz on Nov. 10, 2017.

If found guilty, the fine in New Brunswick for violating the law is $292.50 and three demerit points on their driving record.
“If you see a police or fire vehicle or an ambulance with lights flashing on the side of the road, you must slow down and move over to the other lane when safe to do so and proceed with caution,” says Sgt. André Pepin in a press release.
“By giving that extra space and slowing down, you’re helping keep the emergency responder safe along with everyone travelling the road. It’s also the law.”

Both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia have slow down and move over laws requiring drivers to lower their speed and move over into the far lane when approaching emergency vehicles on side of the highway.
A previous blitz by the Codiac Regional RCMP in October resulted in six drivers being ticketed in an hour.
