RIM to thank local supporters on BlackBerry 10 launch day

TORONTO – Research In Motion will transform their hometown of Waterloo, Ont. on Wednesday in order to thank their local supporters as they launch their latest operating system and new smartphones.

RIM will be hosting a number of community events in Waterloo and surrounding towns on the launch of BlackBerry 10, complete family ice skating events and free treats for community members.

“The support of the community has been phenomenal over the last year. We wanted to express our gratitude by hosting local events to say thank you to our loyal BlackBerry supporters and to celebrate the launch of BlackBerry 10,” said RIM community relations specialist Laura Richards in a press release.

Family skating will be hosted at the Preston Towne Centre in Cambridge from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. ET, Kitchener City Hall from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and at the Waterloo Public Square from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Skaters will be treated to free hot chocolate, cookies, music and giveaways.

RIM and Communitech will also host an invitation-only event for business leaders, politicians and members of the media to watch the broadcast of the New York BlackBerry 10 keynote.

RIM will unveil BlackBerry 10 at multiple events worldwide, including Toronto, New York, London, Paris, Johannesburg and Dubai on Wednesday.
