UPDATE: Prince Albert Police Service launches new website
The website of the Prince Albert Police Service appears to have been hacked by a pro-ISIS group.
A group calling itself Team System Dz hacked the site Wednesday morning and posted a message saying “I Love Islamic state.”
A link to a YouTube video, with someone possibly speaking Arabic, was embedded on the site.
The page has since been taken down.
Prince Albert police posted on Facebook that their “website is temporarily down and will return soon.”
Police officials said the hack had minimal impact on their operations and there was no privacy breach.
“All content on the Prince Albert Police Service website is open to the public and we have confirmed no information or privacy breach has occurred,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
Police refused to comment on the group that hacked their website, stating “we do not want to promote them further in the media.”
Officials said this is the first time their website has been hacked and proactive measures are being taken to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
Deputy chief Jeff Rowden said the incident is a reminder not to open questionable emails or content on computers or devices.
“This incident serves as a reminder to the public that agencies and individuals can be vulnerable and if they receive questionable e-mails or content on their computer or device to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre or their internet service provider,” Rowden said in a statement.
The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre can be contacted at 1-888-495-8501 or online.
