BC Liberal leader hopefuls to debate in Kelowna

The race for the B.C. Liberals top job is heating up.

A number of leadership debates have been scheduled throughout the province in the coming weeks including one in the Okanagan.

The leadership debate is scheduled for Kelowna on Saturday, Dec.2.

There are eight candidates vying to become the party’s next leader after Christy Clark stepped down back in August.

The leadership hopefuls include MLAs Todd Stone, Michael Lee, Sam Sullivan, Mike de Jong and Andrew Wilkinson.  Former Conservative MPs Dianne Watts and Gurmant Grewal are also in the race to become leader as is Terrace businesswoman Lucy Sager.

The upcoming leadership debate is a free event and open to the public.

It will take place at the Coast Capri Hotel.  The doors will open at 10 a.m. with the program starting at 10:30 a.m.

Members of the B.C. Liberal Party will begin voting for their new leader Feb. 1, 2018.

Anyone wanting to get in on the vote must become a member of the party by Dec. 29, 2017.
