Bob Layton Editorial: Red and white and green and gold

CISN Country 103.9 Scheetz Kool Bus filled with toys at Eskimos game. Bob Layton/630 CHED

Well, that was some experience for me Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.

It was an honour to flip the coin to start the Eskimo/Stampeders game.

I had never actually been on a professional football field since the mid-1960’s at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.

I was a security guard and our job was supposedly to discourage fans from pouring out onto the field when the game was over. (Good luck with that.)

This time, I was there well before the game began, because this was the day the Eskimos opened their gates to their fans and their hearts to the children who benefit from 630 CHED Santas Anonymous.

The great community spirit the Eskimos show saw fans arriving Saturday with toys or the money to buy some.

They more than filled the CISN Country 103.9 Scheetz Kool Bus.

This is such a great time of year as we accept and wrap and get ready to deliver toys for children in need.

This year will extra special for me, as I don a Santa hat of red and white and think of the green and gold and you.

Thank you for a great weekend.
