A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection to the death of a toddler in northeastern Alberta.
Sherman Robert Whitford has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.

Sixteen-month-old Veronica Poitras was taken to hospital in Cold Lake by a family member on Aug. 26, police said. Veronica was taken to an Edmonton hospital a short time later, where she was taken off life support and pronounced dead three days later.

RCMP said Whitford is the boyfriend of the child’s mother.
He’s scheduled to appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on Wednesday.
