Oxford County OPP confirm a crash near Thamesford involving a train and a pickup truck is fatal.

The collision in Zorra Township resulted in the death of the pickup truck driver, the lone occupant.

“Oxford County OPP along with emergency services were called to the scene around 9:36 a.m. (Thursday) morning,” Const. Stacey Culbert told AM980.

“We had a northbound pickup truck on the 13th Line that’s collided with a westbound Canadian Pacific Rail freight train.”

Police say the victim is from Oxford County but his name and age will not be released until family has been notified.

“We do have a crossing that is not manned by gates, however, there are signals facing both northbound and southbound traffic that are active and they were working properly,” Culbert added.

The train has two engines and eighty cars which blocked both 13th Line and 15th Line, leading to road closures between Road 74 and Dundas Street for the majority of the day.
