Global News has declared that Don Iveson has won the mayoral race.

Edmontonians went to the polls on Monday, Oct. 16 to vote in the 2017 Edmonton election and Global News provided coverage as soon as the polls closed.

Global News offered extensive live coverage on multiple platforms — radio, online and social media — in order to bring viewers the results as soon as they came in.

Online election coverage at 8 p.m. on Globalnews.ca/Edmonton

Global News livestreamed a two-hour election special online, starting when the polls closed at 8 p.m. The election special was also streamed live on Global Edmonton’s Facebook page, 630 CHED’s Facebook page and iNews 880’s Facebook page.

Global Edmonton anchors Gord Steinke and Carole Anne Devaney hosted the coverage. Reporter Fletcher Kent was live in studio to bring viewers the latest on the results.

The coverage also included live coverage from reporters in the field.

Vinesh Pratap was live from mayoral candidate Don Iveson’s campaign headquarters.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Quinn Ohler was live from Ward 9, where a new councillor was elected.

Kim Smith was live from Ward 5, where a new councillor was elected.

Sarah Kraus was live from Ward 4, where council also saw a new face elected.

The two-hour election special also included analysis from an expert panel, including outgoing city councillor Ed GibbonsinterVivos president Zohreh Saher and 630 CHED’s Ryan Jespersen.

Online producer Emily Mertz offered updates on what was trending on social media while the results trickled in.

Special guests J’Lyn Nye and Andrew Grose also made appearances in the newscast, live from the 630 CHED radio station.

Global News provided updates during the commercials of regularly scheduled programming on television on election night. A special election wrap-up edition of Global News at 11 with Nancy Carlson followed.

The online newscast was simulcast on Corus Radio station 630 CHED. A radio election show followed the Global News coverage on 630 CHED until 11 p.m.
