I’m really getting tired of politicians dodging controversial issues with the lame excuse that it’s not the right time to debate an issue.
Gun control is the latest hot-button issue that has most lawmakers running for political cover, suggesting that it’s too soon after the Las Vegas carnage to debate gun control.
Fearful of a pushback from the gun lobby, most legislators would rather kick this issue down the road until the gruesome memory of 58 people killed and more than 500 injured in the Las Vegas attack begins to fade from the memories of the American public.
Why is it that when we crave leadership, we too often get platitudes and evasive rhetoric?
Here in Canada, we don’t hold the moral high ground either.
It may not be gun control, but issues like the abhorrent living conditions of many Indigenous peoples, or the lack of affordable housing in our cities are just a couple of the issues that receive passive mention during election campaigns, but really, how much is really accomplished by the government of the day?
A pox on the politicians who evade the tough issues, but we the people share the blame.
We’re too easily swayed by slick slogans and empty promises.
When voters get smarter, they’ll get the kind of leadership they need.
