The City of Winnipeg has fired a lawyer the Mayor and CAO say was in charge of a $30 million lawsuit in connection with the Deacon Water Treatment plant. The problem was that the lawsuit was not filed on time and cannot now proceed. This means that the citizens of Winnipeg are on the hook for the needed repairs to the plant, which could be anywhere from $20 million to $30 million (best guess).

While the Mayor and CAO insist steps are being taken to ensure this sort of thing never happens again, the answers they have provided have left many of the people of Winnipeg cold. While there is much talk of accountability on the part of Brian Bowman and Doug McNeil, so far only one person connected to this case has been fired. On today’s edition of The Final Word, on 680 CJOB, I asked a few of the questions that still seem to be dogging this file.
