A future home for a family in Langley Township was destroyed in a fire early Sunday morning.
The house, located on 36A Avenue, was under construction and caught fire just after 3 a.m.
The homeowners were living in a neighbouring house on the property and the fire spread to that second building, causing damages.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but fire officials are treating the blaze as suspicious at this time.
There are no fire hydrants in the area so firefighters had to shuttle water in from about a mile away.
“We do what we call a tanker shuttle,” said Langley Township deputy fire chief Bruce Ferguson. “We do a complete tanker shuttle. So all five of our fire halls have tenders and we get them all rolling. And we have a system once they’re all on scene, we can set them up and rotate them in and out and we can maintain a steady stream of water.”
Ferguson said when crews first got there, they could feel the heat from the intense fire.
“Our first thought was to get the vehicles out of the way because of the fuel inside,” he said. “Once we did that and came around we could see the house was involved.”
